Oppositional Defiant Disorder

 

OPPOSITIONAL DEFIANT DISORDER:

This is a list of symptoms commonly found in children with oppositional defiant disorder.However the best way to determine whether your child has this disorder is evaluation by a licensed mental health professional.

·  Is your child consistently negative, hostile, and rebellious to direction?

·  Is his or her behavior more defiant than most children of his or her age?

·  Does he or she just the negative behavior by blaming outside, or unreasonable causes?

·  Is this behavior occurring before the age of 8?

·  Does your child have a low l frustration level, does he easily loss his temper, and does he seem to experience low self esteem?


Do these problems affect him either at school or home, or in both situations?

Here are other signs to look for:

  • often loosing temper
  • argues with adults frequently
  • actively defies the rules set by adults
  • deliberately tries to annoy others
  • blames others for his mistakes
  • is very touchy or easily annoyed
  • often is resentful and angry
  • often is spiteful or vindictive
  • swears or uses foul language
  • If  the symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder, or other strong oppositional and defiant behaviors, are present it is time to take action. If uour child matches the diagnostic indicators above your child's behavior is significantly more affected than other children in his age range, then mental health assessment is recommended.
